Examinations are an important tool used by the University in assessing your learning. As such there are strict rules and regulations that govern exams to ensure they are high quality and run effectively and free from outside influence.

We have included access to key regulations and guidance around exams here:

There are also a range of groups that must work together to ensure exams run smoothly and conform with academic regulations.

As a student you are one of our key stakeholders and we have outlined your responsibilities here:

1. To follow all instructions pertaining to their examinations, including key information around expected behaviours and avoiding academic misconduct.
2. Students are expected to only bring permitted equipment into their exams. Details on items that are permitted will be made available to students prior to the exam.
3. To check their UoB email account regularly for updates related to examination activity.
4. Students are expected to check their examination timetable to be sure they know where their exam is, for some exams this may be on campus (PSRB regulated) or online.
5. Students are expected to attend their exams on time;
   1. For online exams this means, being aware of the login procedure to WISEflow and ensuring that you have an appropriate device to sit the exam with and access to the system ahead of the published exam start time.
   2. For on campus exams students are expected to be outside of their designated exam room 30 minutes prior to the published exam start time.
   3. Students sitting their exams on site must carry their ID cards. This will be checked as you enter the exam room
6. Students are expected to suitably prepare for their exams, this includes engaging with revision activities, undertaking WISEflow practice/demo exams.
7. Students are expected to communicate with the Exams Team (exams@beds.ac.uk) if they have an issue/ question during an exam and not the Unit Coordinator.
8. Students are expected to ensure all communications with University staff include the following; Name, Student ID Number and a description of your enquiry
9. Students are expected to work with the Disability team (disability@beds.ac.uk) to discuss any Exam access arrangements ahead of any exam period (Please note there is a deadline of 6 weeks prior to the exam for the team to have the paperwork in place in order for the exams team to accommodate the request)
10. To refer to specific guidance documents related to Bring your own device/ book a seat session where necessary.
11. Students are expected to review information and guidance available on beds.ac.uk/exams before each exam period.

Please be aware you will need to be able to log into BREO to access your timetable - If you have forgotten your password please use the self-service . If this does not work please contact/ visit the SiD team at sid@beds.ac.uk or by calling 0300 300 0042.

Please note, if your timetable shows a room allocation under venue this means you are expected to attend the session in person and report the room 30 minutes prior to the start time of the exam.

All formal examinations at the Ïã¸Û×î¿ì¿ª½±½á¹û are run through our Digital Examinations Environment - UoB digital exams enabled by WISEflow.

The content/format of each exam is controlled by the Unit Leader who's unit the exam relates to.

If you would like to gain some experience in the different styles of online exams that are used at UoB please try our practice exams - Practice exams will be sent out to students due to take exams by the Examinations team. If you need help:

During an Online on campus exam

• Raise your hand and an invigilator will come to you.
• If you need technical support the team will attempt to assist you
• If you are unwell, raise your hand and ask to speak to the senior invigilator. They will advise you of what to do next.

During an Online Remote exam

• You MUST contact exams@beds.ac.uk as soon as possible to alert the team of your issue. This must be done during your exam and not after the upload deadline.
• Exams cannot offer support after this timeÌý
• When you email the exams team you need to include the following information to allow the team to look into your issue (Please send the email from your Ïã¸Û×î¿ì¿ª½±½á¹û email address):
  • Full Name (As stated on your ID card)Ìý
  • Student ID Number
  • Unit CodeÌý
  • Location of Study (Course)

We understand that sometimes things do not always go to plan, we appreciate all feedback regarding exams both positive and negative.Ìý

If you wish to raise a concern relating to an exam you have taken or the exams process in general you have 2 options to do this:

Informal Complaint

In the first instance, students are invited to raise their concern with the exams team directly. An email to exams@beds.ac.uk with the subject "Complaint" will allow the team to identify your concern quickly and allow you to receive the most prompt response possible.Ìý

This will then be passed to the Examinations Manager who will review your concerns and provide you with a response/ resolution directly. In this response you will be given details of how you can raise your concerns formally if you are not satisfied with the response given.

Formal Complaint

The Ïã¸Û×î¿ì¿ª½±½á¹û is committed to maintaining an effective procedure to allow all members of its community to make legitimate complaints.

Where informal pursuit of a complaint proves unsatisfactory and requires intervention of objective parties, the formal stages of the Student Complaints Procedure are available to students.
